The brief tasked us with the future of the workplace is changing rapidly How do employers ensure an equitable working environment for both types of workers? This was our problem scope moving forward. Specifically, how might we ensure an equitable working environment for all types of workers throughout collaborative projects.

COVID-19 resulted in hybrid workplaces, however what does this mean for collaboration

It employs motion-tracking technology, multi-sensory design, and gamification to create an engaging team interaction. Team members are given prompts which are supplied by the team leader through an app. This app provides the leader with meeting structures and questions to enhance productivity and support emerging leaders.

Process

Wonder

The brief tasked us with the future of the workplace is changing rapidly due to COVID-19 resulted in hybrid workplaces, however what does this mean for collaboration. This lead to us question how will the work environment work cohesively in hybrid. This lead to our scope examining how a working environment can effectively work for hybrid workers through collaborative projects. In order to deliver a strong product we began with research questions to guide us through our process we than performed cognitive mapping, context mapping as well as literature reviews we then utilised statement cards which revealed that-

Productive outcomes were more innovative through strong communication between them and team members lead to strong collaboration.

Participants were more likely to collaborate in a supportive environment.

Participants were more effective with steadfast leadership that had an outlined list of clear objectives.

Within collaborative environments participants are more likely to voice opposing opinions and work is more.

We also questioned-How might we created an in app editor feature that helps young professionals connect with industry professionals in a meaningful and authentic way, so that they may make advanced in their career.

Explore

Based on this research, we started on ideating solutions through Mash-ups, forced associations, storyboards depicting various scenarios as well as a decision matrix. Through these methods we decided to focus on accessibility and the desirability, viability, feasibility trio which lead to our Magic Carpet idea.

Sensitising Participants- Prior to the context mapping sessions, the participants were tasked with completing a seven day synthesising exercise. The tasks that they were provided with allowed for them to reflect on their collaborative experiences before conducting the context-mapping sessions.

Sensitising Participants- We utilised collages and cognitive mapping. Participants cut out images representing their collaborative experiences and placing them onto a page with axes for like vs dislike and past vs present sparking conversation. We then created cognitive maps to recall collaboration at work with icons and notes of their emotions. Afterward, participants shared what their creations represented and reflected on their experiences.

Statement Cards- From our qualitative data we then collected similar expressions and forming statement cards with key quotes from context mapping as well as interview transcripts.

Visualisation- In telling the story of our findings, we then developed a visualisation to present out research's insights.

Decision Matrix- The decision matrix allowed for us to explore which concepts may have been the most effective whilst other concepts weren't as effective in what we were trying to solve. Although some were ranked lower than the others we could see which aspects of our other concepts could be applied into the final solution.

Journey Map- We then created a journey map to anticipate user behavior and reactions and any potential early issues. This journey map would allow us to communicate the concept to stakeholders, showing our design can positively impact the users experience over time.

Key Takeaways

Originally we planned on having our design similar to interactive floor piano tiles which would be unique to our design. However, we then realised this isn't viable within an office. This project reminded me to not get attached to one idea as it may not be viable in the long run. Research and practical considerations should guide the process to allow for our final product to be innovative as well as functional.
